About the event
#BmoreBoricuas Project is designed to gather the current local boricua narrative of Baltimore in the form of oral stories, artifacts, and artworks, while also archiving the history of Puerto Ricans who migrated to Baltimore from 1800-present. The goal is to shape the foundation of this narrative in Baltimore through a creative lens, build capacity and understanding of the local Puerto Rican story, and provide a creative opportunity for others to learn about the rich culture of Puerto Rico and those that migrated to the U.S. Mainland, with the focus on Baltimore.
The #BmoreBoricuas Mapping & Cultural Archiving Workshop invites local Baltimore Boricuas to contribute to history by submitting personal items to be displayed at Tola’s Room as part of a multimedia map. Participants are encouraged to bring 3-5 items to include photos, trinkets, or other objects (no larger than 5"x7") that represent their cultural narrative and connection to Baltimore’s Puerto Rican community. These items can become part of our visual exhibit, if entrusted to the museum, and will be featured in a larger exhibition of Tola’s Room’s archiving work. All items will be photographed onsite. Food & drink will be provided.
