PR Weekend Baltimore: "Stealing Cars" screening

Join Tola’s Room for the closing event of PR Weekend Baltimore 2026 at Library Nineteen. The evening will feature a screening of Stealing Cars, a raw and beautifully portrayed Baltimore story directed by Marly Hernández-Cortés and Stephen Schuyler. Shot entirely in Baltimore City with a small local production team, the film offers a deeply realistic portrayal of adolescence, trauma, resilience, and community, while serving as a meaningful cinematic tribute to Baltimore.

Hosting this screening at Library Nineteen carries special significance. Located in present-day Fells Point but once recognized by many Puerto Rican families as “El Barrio,” the building formerly housed Education Based Latino Outreach (EBLO), an organization founded by Puerto Rican community advocate and leader José Orlando Ruiz (1950-2006) dedicated to supporting Baltimore’s Latino youth and families through education, mentorship, and cultural programming. Gathering in this restored historic space creates a meaningful connection between Baltimore’s Puerto Rican past and present through storytelling, film, and collective memory.

Following the screening, audience members will have the opportunity to participate in a special Q&A conversation with directors Marly Hernández-Cortés and Stephen Schuyler.
