One of the most well-known Taíno figures is Atabey, the mother goddess and deity of fertility and fresh water, often depicted with a woman’s head and body and frog-like legs. Other common symbols include the coquí frog, native to Puerto Rico and named for its distinctive call, and el sol, or sun.
